Courses

Creating Courses

Navigate to eLearning → Courses → Courses and click New. Enter a Course Title and add tags to categorize the course for filtering on the public catalog. Upload a cover image. Configuration tabs: Content tab: Organize course material into sections and add content items. Attach certification assessments at the end of courses. Description tab: Write a course summary displayed on the website beneath the course title. Options tab: Configure course settings across four areas:
  • Course: Assign responsible person and restrict to specific website if multiple sites configured
  • Communication: Enable reviews and comments, link a discussion forum, set notification emails for new content and course completion
  • Access Rights: Define prerequisites, audience visibility (Everyone, Signed In, Course Attendees only), and enrollment policy
  • Display: Choose Training (sequential order) or Documentation (any order) format
Karma tab: Set karma point rewards for course review and completion. Configure minimum points required for user actions. Enrollment policies:
  • Open: Anyone can enroll freely
  • On Invitation: Restricted to invited participants with shareable enrollment links
  • On Payment: Requires product purchase to access (requires Paid Courses setting enabled)

Course Groups

Organize courses into groups for improved catalog navigation. Navigate to eLearning → Configuration → Course Groups and click New. Add group name, enable website menu entry, and assign colored tags.

Course Content

Adding Content

Navigate to eLearning → Courses → Contents and click New, or add content directly from within the course in the Content tab. Content fields:
  • Course assignment
  • Content type selection
  • Responsible person
  • Estimated duration
  • Preview availability (accessible before enrollment)

Content Types

Image: Upload JPG, PNG, SVG, GIF, or WEBP files (max 25MB). Alternatively link Google Drive images. Article: Website pages created using the visual website builder. Open the article’s website page and edit directly in the front-end editor. Document: Upload PDF files or link Google Drive documents, slides, or spreadsheets. Enable download option to allow learners to save locally. Video: Paste YouTube, Google Drive, or Vimeo video URLs. Video embeds directly in the learning interface. Quiz: Create question sets to assess learner understanding (configured in the Quiz tab).

Quizzes

Create assessment questions in the Quiz tab of content items. Add questions using Add a line. For each question:
  • Enter question text
  • Add multiple answer choices
  • Mark correct answers with Is correct answer
  • Add explanation comments shown when answer selected
Configure karma points rewarded based on number of attempts needed to answer correctly, encouraging first-attempt accuracy.

Additional Resources

Link supporting documents, external resources, or supplementary files in the Additional Resources tab. Resources appear on the content page for learner access.

Publishing

Courses and content must be published separately to appear publicly. Publish workflow:
  1. First publish all individual content items within the course
  2. Then publish the course itself
Publish by opening the course or content item front-end page and toggling the status switch from Unpublished to Published. Unpublishing a course hides both the course and all its content from public access. Individual content items can be unpublished without affecting the overall course.

Settings

Navigate to eLearning → Configuration → Settings to enable optional features:
  • Certifications: Issue official skill certifications upon course completion
  • Paid Courses: Enable course purchasing with product-linked pricing
  • Mailing: Send bulk emails to enrolled learners with updates and announcements
  • Forum: Add community discussion spaces to courses

Best Practices

Structure courses with clear sections for digestible learning paths. Include quizzes to reinforce learning and maintain engagement. Set completion notifications to celebrate learner achievements. Use karma gamification to encourage active participation and content interaction. 💡 Your Knowlix: “Show me enrollment statistics for the Sales Training course” or “Which learners have not completed the required certification?”
